Saturday afternoon South Melbourne Market

Following on from the accidental week from hell, the family are slowing getting back to some normality. A Saturday morning ritual from us has always been a trip to South Melbourne Market to stock up on our groceries for the week ahead. I love the buzz of the market (wish I had taken more pics) and would much rather enjoy this shopping experience than peruse down the isles of the local Coles or Safeway. I normally get dressed up to go to the market (any excuse really), this dress has been in my wardrobe for a number of years but I seem to be taking it out more often, the colour provokes comments from passers by and I feel good wearing it. Looks like I'm colour coordinating with the bin lid but that's ok. The shoes were gifted to me by Anthea over at What's For Tea, she also arrived on my doorstep this week with a lemon tart that rocked my world and made me feel a whole lot better, thanks Anth x

Hobble Hobble...New York, New York

It would be fair to say that this week ranged from fair to hellish. At the beginning my wee boy had his first stack resulting in one very long trip to Casualty, a broken arm and a split head. Closely followed by his Granny the following day who fell down some stairs and broke both her arms! These things do come and 3's and fellow blogger Fashion Hayley has also been in the wars. So quite frankly I am writing this week off as a dud.
That all aside, I do have some good news to share with you. In October, I will be meeting up with my Glasgow pals in a trip to New York! I have never been and the prospect is way to exciting to put in to words, PURE CANNY WAIT BYE THE WAY!!!!!! I've already stocked up on some travel guides and scouting out where and what I am going to spend.

This week may have been a dud but look what I've got to look forward to huh, happy days!

Have a great weekend and stay away from stairs, chairs, tables and anything that moves.

Summer Saturday afternoon

Photobucket
Today has not been the best, my little boy broke his arm and split his head open (in that order) - many hours spent in Casualty, but thankfully he is now tucked up in his bed, albeit with a massive stookey (plaster). Being a mum can be delightful, challenging and heartbreaking all at the same time. I could do with a little colour to brighten up this day.

Here's a wee outfit I donned on Saturday afternoon, embracing my love for colour.

Tomorrow is another day...

Outfit:
Top: Country Road
Faux fur: Cue
Skirt: Global rags
Tights: Myer
Shoes: Nine West
Scarf (worn as belt) Mimco
Shades: Urban Outfitters

200th Post - Harris Tweed Me

200th Post, WOW, I've been busy huh!

I love documentaries and spend most of my night's, once the bairn goes down watching them. Recently I watched 'Tweed', the story in four parts of Harris Tweed. If you don't know much about Harris Tweed, here's a brief history: Harris Tweed (Clò Mór or Clò na Hearadh in Gaelic) is a luxury cloth that has been handwoven by the islanders on the Isles of Harris, Lewis, Uist and Barra in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, using local wool. The islanders have been spinning their yarn, dating back to 1830 and the documentary details the ups and the downs of the industry and the effect on its people.
The Orb logo shown is a trademarked symbol and every piece of cloth has to go through rigorous checks and testing before it can be awarded the quality brand. Harris Tweed can be found in many Saville Row tailors and over the past few years has been re-invented by the late Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Ralph Lauren to name but a few.
This is a quality product and I love the romance of it all, especially this range from Liberty Freedom.

I also adore this range of lamps from Glasgow based Graven Images, showing the diversity of the cloth with iconic Scottish imagery.

“Just what is it that you want to do?
We wanna be free
We wanna be free to do what we wanna do
And we wanna get loaded
And we wanna have a good time
That's what we're gonna do
No way baby lets go
We're gonna have a good time
We're gonna have a party...”

On Wednesday night I took a nostalgic trip down memory lane with the Bobby Gillespie and the boys, otherwise known as Primal Scream. A trip that took me way back; my teens, the album Screamadelica - an album that consumed my world for many years and still remains a classic and timeless piece of musical genius. As a youngster growing up just outside Glasgow I was heavily into the indie/Manchester scene that evolved into the rave scene and Screamadelica was an album that could always be heard around the early 90s, usually at the end of a hard night on the dance floor at a party somewhere, anywhere in Glasgow.

The band are currently touring Australia. They played at The Forum in Melbourne to a sell out crowd of 30 something folk like masel all up for a little bit of nostalgia. With Mani (my boy's namesake) from the Stone Roses on bass and front man Gillespie on vocals, the band delivered an incredible visual and head boppin night in a seamless celebration of psychedelic rock and roll. I danced around like a fanny on ma three Magners beltin out every tune, loved every minute with my ladies in tow. We dined at Gills Diner in the city beforehand, food, venue and clientele spot on, good people watchin - lots a young 20 somethings in eclectic getup. We were served by a french waitress who was effortlessly chic and beautiful (came away with a lady crush).

Back to the gig, I love how music can take you back to a time in your life or remind you of a certain person. As they played ‘Higher than the Sun’, I got goosegumps, floods of memories of me and my pals having the time of our lives at the tender age of 16, thinking we knew it all and were so cool...and do you know what, we so were!
