Ah Valentine's Day, love it or loathe it? I'm a little partial to some romance in my life, so yes, I love it. On a recent supposed window shopping trip, I spotted this cute little frock with its heart shaped bodice - perfect for Valentine's Day. Sportsgirl have the best sales, I picked this up for $39.99, who could resist a bargain like that? The bow belt was a birthday gift from my buddy Trace and the bow shoes from my buddy Anthea, they go just perfectly, Thanks ladies.

I'm even starting to love myself a little more after losing some of the weight I piled on over Christmas, been walking lots and staying out of the cookie jar!

Early in January, a wee surprise arrived in the post for me; all the way from Glesga. My BFF Fi is always sending me the cutest gifts, you can check out some more over here. A love of accessories is something we both share and I adore that Fi always sends me great Scottish finds. This windmill brooch is just stunning, gorgeous vintage button, all the way from Dunoon, Scotland.

The brooch is by a Glaswegian Textile Designer Corinne Robinson aka Dazed Dorothy. Dazed Dorothy is a collection of one off pieces, using leathers, fabrics, vintage buttons, embellishments and trimmings, sourced from all over the world. Check out her Etsy site over here.

Bright yellow 50s bikini and body issues

Body issues, we all have them, I am currently finding it hard to shed the weight I piled on over Christmas. It's only a few kilos but to be honest I liked the way I was . Thought I would tackle it head on with a bikini shoot; sometimes it pays to take a good hard look at yourself and realise that your torturing yourself for nothing. Sure, I could do with toning up but these shots don't look so bad. Most successful fashion bloggers are photogenic, beautiful and slim, with the exception of a few and I would like to think my blog gives a more realistic documentation of the average woman. I have curves, wobbly bits, boobs and yes, sometimes I have body issues. In order to achieve my goal weight I need to exercise and eat healthy, it's as simple as that.

I purchased this 50s style bikini from ASOS on sale ($50) because I felt self conscious in a normal low cut and as a result feel much more confident at the beach. If you don't have the perfect body then try work with what you do have, a sarong can help without making you feel that you are completely covered. Check out this previous post on swimwear.

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, so if like me you are struggling at this time of year, tackle it head on and don't be so hard on yourself.

On my recent trip to Philip Island, I came across these Mink Pink shorts in a tiny boutique on the main street and snapped them up for $30. I am loving the print trends evolving at the moment and anticipate that print may take over my wardrobe in 2012. Its fair to say I don't have the best pins on the planet but it doesn't stop me wearing shorts. This outfit is a wee bit a fun, teamed with a few accessories and my new necklace which I prefer to wear as a belt.

The skinny jean is a garment I normally shy away from: 1. They are the uniform of 20 somethings and 2. I don't really do jeans, partly because they cut me off in all the wrong places and I prefer to wear dresses and skirts. In my early teens I owned a pair of bright orange crushed cotton Versace (pure galice) skinny Jeans, they still holiday in the back of my wardrobe; unfortunately I can't get them above my knees!

Trends, it's swings and roundabouts and the coloured skinny jean has made a little resurgence. Mentioned previously, I normally don't entertain jeans but the colour of these pure 'mint' skinnies and the price tag caught me eye. On sale in Sportsgirl for $35, reduced from $99, bargain. I forked out 130 quid for my Versace pair 20 years ago (payed for them with my bursary which was supposed to pay for books and college stuff; I was a very fashion conscience student with no books). Teamed with a few other green pieces I think they work for a casual Summer look, what do you think?

Apologies, my post's have been a wee bit sparse of late, too busy enjoying my summer holidays. Santa was very good to me this year and I would like to share with you a small selection of my favourite presents. My little red rain cape from Wet n Wendy is just so adorable, I love and was delighted when the rains came today and I got the chance to take it out, albeit for half an hour before the heat took over; twas very humid today. I love my new colour resin bangles and predict they will feature heavily in my up and coming outfit posts. Red and orange are colours I adore, my new ballet flats and necklace will work well together and perfect additions to my wardrobe. Don't you just love when people get you? What special gifts did Santa bring for you??

Happy New Year! I'm returning from my bloggers holiday and looking forward to another year on the blogging circuit. I've had a massive festive with family and friends, eating, drinking and taking time out. My waist band has expanded but who cares! Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Topshop launch party, Chapel St, Melbourne. With my dear friend Anthea in tow we perused, shopped, drank endless Moet, hobnobbed with blogging glitterati and giggled like school girls; what better way to spend a Wednesday night. Topshop is a store that we both grew up with and to have the first Australian flagship store here in Melbourne is just fabulous. The brand has grown tenfold since I was a kid, with celebrity endorsements and collaborations it continues to bring the catwalk to the high street at affordable prices. This shop will do well, that's a given, the stock is current, on trend and accessible to many ages. Fast, affordable fashion. Hopefully it will give Chapel St a boost and get people shopping on the high street again.

I am enjoying my wee blogging holiday but last night I did get inspired after talking with some fellow bloggers and their encouragement for me to get back on the horse, so watch this space...

Cheers folks!

On Saturday night, I had the pleasure of my favourite ladies and a special bar, The Everleigh on Gertrude St. The occasion, my 37th birthday. In true birthday tradition I also bought myself a birthday suit; a scarf dress from Kinki Gerlinki which I absolutely adore. Perfect for a fabulous night of cocktails and laughs at one of the most stylish bars in Melbourne. The Everleigh is no ordinary bar, the architect behind New York’s Milk and Honey, Sasha Petraske collaborated with Michael Madrusan and Lauren Schell to create a sophisticated establishment oozing in character. I Love.

If you follow me on twitter, you will know that I boldly declared last week that I would be quitting Sleekit. Call it a twitter fit or what you like but I have decided to take a wee break from the blog for the moment. Over the festive, life is shaping up to be very busy and I simply don't have the time to indulge. However, next week I will be attending the opening of the Topshop flagship Melbourne store which I am very excited about and obviously a blog will be in order, then I will put my blogging feet up till after the New Year. I love you readers and I do love my blog but after 2 years of constant documenting, it's time for a wee break.

At the end of the week I will be celebrating turning the ripe ol age of 37. At 36 your still hanging by a baw hair to 35, 37 your on the path to the big 4 0. I'm not scared of aging but there are some choices that scare the crap of of me; Do I need to start dressing my age? Has my clock started ticking, you know which clock I mean? Not big questions but change is upon me, I can feel it.

Before I went to New York, I proclaimed that I would cull my blog when I came back, end on a high and yet here I am still uploading and talking shit. Am I simply addicted to this forum?

Last week I went to see the movie Bill Cunningham New York, if you haven't already seen it I implore you to. Bill, 80+ is fashion photographer for the New York Times, mainly known for his street style photography. He was shooting the streets way before the Sartorialist was even a twinkle in his mothers eye. He leads a very simplistic life, untouched by fame and fortune and purely in love with his craft. This film inspired me to continue with my own passion for an alternative wardrobe but juxtaposed with my need for social media, do I really need it in my life?

Day out to Barwon Heads

Had my eye on those yellow sunnies

The weather has been seasonally beautiful and on Friday we took advantage and spent the day in Barwon Heads, about an hours drive from Melbourne. The sea side town houses a plethora of little shops and eateries and is the prefect spot for families or a weekend escape. We devoured a delicious lunch at Annie's Provedore and perused some local shops before sampling the perfect toddler friendly beach on the shore. A stand out shop for me was Kiitos, hosting the biggest collection of Marrimekko fabrics and homewares in a former, retro style garage on Bridge Rd. The summer dresses and colourful sunnies were simply stunning, I could easily have made a few purchases but unfortunately I need to curb my spending, New York did not come cheap. Maybe next trip! It's the tail end of the Melbourne Cup carnival and today was ladies day at Flemington, Oakes Day. For a wee bit of fun, I thought I would give Fashions on the Field a go (good prizes to be had) with my Holly Fulton frock and a home made geometric hat creation. The hat took a few days to construct using a base covered in sequins, triangle canvases covered with black and white silk and a hell of a lot of velcro! When I left the house my hat was sitting perfectly but as the day went on it began to slide with the weight. I'm no Milliner, but for a first attempt I was pretty chuffed with my creation. Many folks stopped to comment but it wasn't enough for the judges of Fashions on the Field. As I stood in the queue waiting to parade myself like a show pony, I got the feeling that this was not the first time for many of these girls. Was it fun? yes, would I do it again? probably not, at the end of the day parading on the blog is one thing, but standing in front of a panel to be judged is not really me, having a laugh, drinking champagne and spending time with family, yes, that's me x

(I left early and my mum and sisters proceeded to wangle their way into the Birdcage (where all the celebs hang out), now that's pure Sleekit! Good on ya ladies

Happy Halloween dear readers! Are you a trick or treater?? I used to love Halloween as a kid, would wander the dark streets for hours in search of the best sweeties; a neighbour up the road used to make toffee apples, but you had to be quick, as word always spread fast! We used to tell jokes, sing a song or do a turn, kids these days just want the loot and run (and there you have it, I'm officially an old fart!)

Here's a few snaps from my recent trip, New Yorkers love Halloween, decorations followed where ever I went. My favourite has to be this town house off Bleeker St, I stood and looked at this while I polished off a cupcake from the Magnolia Bakery. The Chelsea Market was another amazing place if your a foody, you must check this out, a plethora of goodies to be had.

My first night in New York - The Jane

After a whole year in the making I finally got my chance to spend a week in the big apple. To say I had an amazing time is an understatement, what a ride, what a place; so many stories to share. New York is like no other city I have ever experienced, it's BIG, HUGE! I only just touched on the surface. I'm feel inspired, excited and look forward to sharing with you all the best bits this week on the blog.

To begin my epic journey let's start with my first night. I stayed at The Jane in the Meatpacking District, a cute boutique, stunning hotel situated on the skirt of the Hudson River, what a view! I stayed in the Captain's Cabin, a little indulgent for one but well worth every penny. You can however stay in one of their cabins for as little as $100 but you do need to share a bathroom.

Cafe Gitane is situated on the ground floor, I sampled their signature Merguez Sausage Cous Cous tower and polished it off with the first of many cocktails. Twas the perfect first night.

Stay tuned this week for What I wore, What I bought, Places & Architecture, My best mate Fi and anything else I can physically fit in, I'm still fighting the jet-lag but still very much on a high.

Last week, I was delighted to be invited to the Committee Dinner at Mooney Valley Racecourse celebrating the start of the Spring Carnival. It was a fairly lavish affair and unfortunately my pics do not do the night justice. My beloved and I were treated to a three course dinner on the top floor of the establishment and spent the night drinking and losing money, twas fun, I wore my Holly Fulton frock. The room was full of the crème de la crème of racing, trainers, die hard equestrian athlete lovers! (yes, horses! that's what racing folks call them), not the fashion conscious you would say, I was most definitely the brightest person in the room.

One small purchase before the trip was these cute jelly bow shoes from Peter Alexander, reminiscent of the Melissa shoes at the bargain price of $29, twinkle toes indeed, next time you see me on here I will be on the streets of Manhattan, until then, take care.

A few new things around my home

English Cornish-ware, you can get some here

The Chinese Girl (often popularly known as The Green Lady) is a 1950 painting by Vladimir Tretchikoff.

My mum recently moved house and with a smaller space has off loaded some treasures to me. The Vladimir Tretchikoff print has been in my family for years and I have always loved it, it sat at the top of our stairs in our house back in Cumbernauld, Scotland, always visible as you came through the front door. It was given to my mum and dad as a wedding gift. It was mass produced in the 60s and became the world's biggest selling art print. Reminds me of home and growing up.

The English Cornish-ware was also given to my mum as a gift. I love the simplicity of the design, it's so iconic; conjures up images of British families sitting round the breakfast table. I hope to buy some dinner plates and bowls to add to the collection.

In a previous post I mentioned that I had purchased a Polka dot playsuit from Sportsgirl; well here it is in all its glory! A belter huh, I love it! The perfect day to night outfit for my up and coming trip to NY (I'm sorry if I have been droning on about this trip for an eternity but I'm bloody excited!).

How to colour block

I find it slightly annoying when a style you have been working for some time becomes a 'Trend'. How rude! If you have been following my blog you will be well aware that my look is very much about colour and in particular the art of 'colour blocking'. Colour is an aesthetic I am very comfortable with and I love to experiment. In my day job as a Graphic Designer, I work closely with colour designing logos, brochures and print material and find that helps when I work my wardrobe.

If your slightly terrified at the prospect of colour blocking why not start with one colour; for example, if you mostly wear black why not try mixing in orange or yellow. If you want to be a wee bit more adventurous then think complimentary colours: red and blue, orange and grey or purple and red; look to nature for the best inspiration, especially of the flower variety.

Here's a few Sleekit looks from over the last couple of years, yes can you believe I have just passed my second Anniversary, that's a whole lota colour. Go on have fun with it.

Lunch at Trunk

I have been rather slack on the posting front; life has been busy, busy, but today I took time out for lunch at Trunk. It was glorious day in Melbourne, albeit a wee bit windy, unexpectedly flashed a few cars when a gust of wind sent my silk dress a flying and on the power walk back to the office my sandle snapped : ( Ach well, will just need to buy myself a new pair in NY, 3 weeks today till I go! eek

So, back to the lunch, Trunk, a perfect spot to indulge in a delicious lunch and make the most of the alfresco weather. I munched on a meatball baguette while my new partner in crime (at work) Beth enjoyed the Tuna salad.

Earlier in the week I promised some shots from the catwalk, albeit a wee bit blurry, featuring Alpha60, Carly Hunter, Alistair Trung, Trimapee, Above, From Britten, Kuwaii, Limedrop, S!X and Arnsdorf. The collections were all good but not much for lady Sleekit; lots of floaty garments and bra free outfits, not the best combo for a chick with curves and more than a handful! However, I was impressed with the Limedrop collection, especially loved the check oversize shirt.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending Show 4 Senso Uniquo as part of the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW). With my ladies in tow, we sampled a few complimentary drinks in the cocktail lounge prior to the event and was delighted to bump into a few of my favourite bloggers. People whom I have admired and followed from the very beginning of my own blog. Just great to meet like minded and lovely people who enjoy and share a passion.

Holly Fulton is a Scottish designer whom I admire immensely, you may have seen this post. When I discovered that she had collaborated with ASOS, I just had to have a taste. I ordered this dress on Saturday morning and it arrived on Tuesday morning, now that's service! I teamed it with my Mimco box and accessories from Sportsgirl and Diva. Twas a fun night, will bring you some of the catwalk later.

With the changing of the season, I opted for a small purchase, a wee Scottie Dog dress from ASOS for the bargain price of $32! It got me with the print, being Scottish I love anything Scot; I just had to move across the globe to become very patriotic. Perfect for Spring with tights and into Summer with milk bottle legs, ha. The belt, also a bargain from Sportsgirl, $10.

Wednesday night at Chin Chin

Last week was unusually social for me with a midweek dinner at Chin Chin, closely followed by dinner on Friday night at The Newmarket Hotel and then Saturday night at Hu Tong.

Chin Chin is the new talk of the town, you can't book which seems to be a winning formula for any new kid on the block. The interior is lush, I loved the graphics on the wall and menus, not to mention the pink neon bunny mirror positioned at the end of the luxurious marble bar. With the prospect of a hour and a half wait for a table a couple of friends and I ended up sitting at the bar and having some entrees before proceeding to a table to have our mains. The food was deliciously flavorsome and kinda reminded me of Cookie. We had salt and pepper squid, Massaman beef curry, thai salad and some spicy ball thing that was HOT! The service was not that great on the floor, maybe it was just too busy, but the folks behind the bar were very attentive.
The night previous I celebrated the beginnings of Spring and treated myself to a manicure and pedicure. As I sat like lady muck perched on my massage chair, I ear-wigged a conversation among two 20 somethings on what shade of pink they should adorn on their nails, I looked over and they had three shades which looked exactly the same to me, "OMG it's such a tough decision, I can't decide...what do you think?". Bless. This inspired me to have my toes painted bright orange and my nails pea green, because sometimes you just need to try something different and I have to say I like. The two girls on the other hand looked over in disgust and went back to procrastinating about the pink.

With the beginnings of Spring in Melbourne, I am embracing my love for colour. You can smell the changing of the season in the air, blossoms have sprouted and the Magnolia trees line the streets of my neighbourhood. It's a beautiful time in this fair city.

The scarf above (bought by my beloved and later claimed by moi) is becoming part of my nearly Spring wardrobe, keeping me warm enough without the need for a jacket or cardie and making a statement with its Aztec geometric pattern. It's my new, nearly Spring companion.

Jeffrey Campbell Rockin Cutout Lace-Up Wedge

Up until now, I have totally avoided the boot wedge trend, 2 reasons: 1. I have small pins and couldn't possibly pull them off without looking reminiscent of a Mrs Buzz Lightyear 2. The silhouette can sometimes look like some folks have left the house with a brick stuck to their foot! BUT then I saw these amazing shapely, architectural amazingballs (my word of the week, have no idea how it got into my psyche but for the purpose of describing these shoes it is fitting) By Jeffrey Campbell for ASOS.

How comfortable would they would be to wear? Would I have to walk around at Geisha pace? Concerns aside, I would quite happily position them on my side board and admire them for the true genius that they are. Covet.

Saturday night - date night at Dandelion

It's very rare these days that I get the chance to fully glam up for a night on the town. On Saturday night, my beloved and I took the short stroll up the wood to sample a new and exciting restaurant Dandelion. The contemporary Vietnamese establishment is the new venture for founder and chef of Pearl, Geoff Lindsay. Now, I'm not going to review this fabulous joint as I'm finding my blog is steadily becoming a place for me to vent food, what can I say I likes to eat! Just go, that's all I'm saying...(maybe try the soft shell crab rolls)

I released my Tibi dress from under the cellophane and found it a little tighter than the previous wear but managed to squeeze myself into it all the same, just! (2 unwanted kilos have landed on my ass, very rude indeed) The coat is an old favourite, I've had for years but still a classic. The silver ball purse was a pressie from my pals, a couple of birthdays past and my Nine West pink patent heels with matching tights complete the outfit.

Everyone has a LBD (little black dress) in their closet, a faithful and trusty friend but I also think that every wardrobe should have a LBJ (little black jacket). My LBJ was a gift from my beloved when we first met, a Christmas pressie over 15 years ago from Karen Millen. A tuxedo style jacket will never date and is worth investing in, you can dress it up or down and just like the LBD can become a wardrobe staple. I've teamed mine here with another trusty friend, the stripey T and a scarf from Mimco ($2 in a warehouse sale), bright pink heels from Best and Less.

You may have noticed my severe lack of blog posts, this is due to working heaps and most recent, planning for my now 3 year old's birthday party. Rushing around like a headless chicken from party shop to supermarket with not much time to catch a breath in-between. This is mostly due to my need to go all out and create the perfect day for my son (yes, I am one of those annoying mum's who designs the invites and colour co-ordinates every detail, what can I say, it's my creative gene) and work wise, well, I have probably taken on much more than I can chew, but it was all worth it to see the smile on my boys face and the extra earned pennies taking me closer to New York.

A time of the day when I do get to sit down for an hour, on my own, all by myself is lunchtime. I work around the skirt of the CBD in Melbourne and love to enjoy the fabulous plethora of eateries at my disposal. Recently, I visited De Clieu on Gertrude St, a place to people watch, enjoy a tasty snack and sip on some of the best coffee in Melbourne. The male staff are very polished with their slicked back hair and beard combos, the females equally preened, there is a lot of style going on here, in the fit out and also with their clientele. But most of all, the food is delicious. I devoured a grilled sausage pide, with bags of flavour and for take away, one of their Hazelnut and Cranberry meringues for tea at 3 before heading back to the office. This was my third visit in three weeks, go check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed. And if your planning a kids party, just remember...

...all they care about is the cake!

She gets me and I get her, like two peas in a pod our tastes are so similar, even though we live on opposite sides of the planet. We met in high school and have gone through so must together, the distance has only brought us closer.

In October, I will be meeting up with Fi and a bunch of old friends for a chicks holiday in New York, to say I'm excited is an understatement but most of all I am looking forward to seeing my best bud, I love and miss her so much, she is the best.

Well hello, I've been a wee bit of a stranger. Life is mental at the moment, work, work, work and not much play, although I did go out for dinner the other night to the Newmarket Hotel in St Kilda and this is what I wore. I'm in mid winter hibernation and feel like I'm favoring a few pieces to get me through this wet and long winter; consisting of: black winter coat, orange shorts and massive cosy scarf, accompanied by leather gloves and of course the infamous orange patent heels (are you sick of seeing them? sorry I do love them). Now, I appreciate that my European/Glesga readers will scoff at the thought of me freezing my buns off, but yes, Melbourne is experiencing one very cold and wet winter. Today the rain was smirry, the kind that soaks you through, drookit to use a Scottish term. Roll on Spring so I can get out off this wardrobe rut, but until then I'm rugging up in the best way I know how whilst colour co-ordinating with the local restaurant, ha!

Only going for a week and looking to have a massive splurge when I get there so need to take as little as possible, within reason of course; have whittled it down to 4 pairs of shoes. The orange patent shoes will definitely be coming, that's a given, they go with so many of my outfits. This look could work for day or night and hope to work recently purchased orange shorts into a few of my outfits. Accessories don't take up much space and can change an outfit instantly, lots of statement pieces will be coming too, cocktail ring will obviously be getting a work out ;)

Yesterday afternoon, I hooked up with my family for a spot of (window shopping for me) and lunch at The Hopetoun Tea Rooms situated in the Block Arcade just off Collins St. We met at The Public Purse a super cute sculpture nested at the bottom of the Bourke St Mall. After a few pit stops which also included a first glance at the new Zara store (stuff piled like mountains with women in some kinda frenzy to blag a bargain, I ran out, I hate that kind of shopping, it's like bad shopping feng shui or something and you need to queue to get in, what's with that!) we parked ourselves for an afternoon of perfect indulgence. This is the first time I have sampled this decadent little nook and well, I will be back! The cakes are to die for and it's just so charming. We nattered away for a couple of hours, a perfect Sunday afternoon.

Melbourne may be in the thick of Winter but we are experiencing some very mild seasonal days, welcomed of course, although may be short lived as the coat and scarf were back on today. With the end of financial year sales on its never been a better time to pick up a bargain. I love to blag a bargain and at $20 these Chelsea boots are a steal. For the last few months I have been nursing a toe injury hopefully, fingers crossed, I may finally have got my foot back after a hard core dose of anti-inflammatory pills. I've been missing my heels, feels good to get them back on. Won't be riding any horses any time soon but will pound these puppies on the high street. The new leather gloves and ring combo have not been off since they finally arrived on my shores, it's my new signature accessory.

Alice discusses the colourful costume world of sequins and beads, as well as introducing her first Edgeley collection of wild leotards, pleated skirts and dapper shirts.

Bitter sweet win

Way back in February I received a lovely email to say that I had won a $100 gift voucher for the online store Le Black Book upon entering a street style comp over at On the Streets of Sydney. Obviously well chuffed, I peruse the site and pick out my prize, place my order, pay the difference and wait in anticipation for my parcel. A week passes, nothing, another week passes and still nothing, I begin stalking my letterbox. Still no sign I jump on the website and try to navigate my way to contacting Le Black Book to find out what's going on. The long and the short of it is, I spend the next 4 months chasing my order to no avail. On three separate occasions they tell me my order has JUST been dispatched and to keep my eye on the postman : ) (always with the : ) on the end of correspondence which gets my back up even more.) I retort, "You told me that months ago and my postman ain't that Hot!"

Now, these folk don't quite realise that I'm not the kind of chic who will just forget and let them take my hard earned cash, I'm a Glaswegian Scot afterall. Countless emails, tweets follow. OSOS were very apologetic/horrified and take up my case with Le Black Book.

Finally after months of battles, my parcel finally arrives last week. A pair of black leather half moon gloves and a gold double ring with a complimentary silver ring for my troubles. Yes, I'm glad they sorted me with a freeby and I'm pleased with the order but for a lass that does a hell of a lot of shopping online all I was left with was Le Black Mark.

The Green Lady

Continuing on my week of colour, I give you the Green Lady. Inspired by a 1950 painting by Vladimir Tretchikoff which has been in my family for years. I've always loved this print and intrigued by the mysterious green lady who frequented so many living rooms in 1960s and 70s. My mum reckons she has the original and who am I to burst her bubble.

Well, I promised you some colour didn't I!

I spent a glorious Saturday afternoon shopping in Melbourne city with my good friend Al and this is just a snippet of what I bought. I had intended to maybe buy a couple of accessories and a pair of tights (Sleekit can never have enough tights), given I am supposed to be saving for NY trip in October but clapped eyes on these babies and that went all out the windae.

Initially I bought the tights from FAT, loved the knee detail and the colours briskly followed by a purchase of these glow in the dark shorts from Kinki Gerlinki. Love the colour and the paper bag waist detail, these are definitely a statement piece, they say "I'm one cheery risky mama."

Refashioned frock into Winter

This week I have found myself gravitating towards dark hues; maybe it's the cold weather snap that we Melbournians are currently enduring or the bad head cold that I have been nursing. Another recent purchase is the $5 grey skivvy I found in China Town, it's perfect to wear under dresses and I love the turtle neck, cozy.

Winter is upon us in Melbourne and I have succumbed to my first bad cold of the year, spending lots of time in my pjs, nursing lemsip and generally feeling crap. My toe has also been giving me some issues and after an xray today I should know what is going on. I am still wearing flats and purchased a new pair of brogues on the weekend from Target for $30. On trend, stylish and light on the pocket. Nice.
It seems that feet are a hot topic in the land of the blog as Lady Melbourne also addressed the issue "Are heels bad for your health", an interesting read and some insight from the view of the podiatrist and the fashionista. Fashion Hayley has also posted on the topic.

If I'm honest, I am missing my heels. I love the extra height being 5 foot nothing, the confidence and I have so many great pairs but maybe it is time to take stock if compulsive heel wearing is affecting my health. Could I just wear them for special occasions or maybe alternate from day to day. Maybe I just need to find some more flats to add to what is a fabulous collection.

New ASOS Coat and Cotton On Boots

You may have noticed my new coat in the previous post, a new purchase from ASOS. I bought it on sale for $68, a bargain for a quality winter coat and I liked cause it was a wee bit different. Some folks are already confused, "Is it one coat or are you wearing two coats?", the answer is 1 coat. ASOS have free shipping internationally now and you can even track your order right to your door! (Unlike some online stores who just don't even bother to send you their goods, more on this later, it needs a whole post for THAT story).

With view to my recent diagnosis of arthritis of the toe, I have made a conscious effort to wear flat shoes. For the last two weeks I have stayed heel free (apart from yesterday, couldn't possibly do high tea without my heels) and purchased a new pair of boots from Cotton On. These boots are so comfortable and I'm finding they work with most outfits. I do feel a little smurf like in flats though.

Another recent purchase was the black turban hat, have had a few laughs when out and about but I like it, just another alternative to the beanie me thinks.

Afternoon Tea at Hotel Nest

Apologies for being a stranger but blogger shit itself last week with a plethora of technical issues, hopefully all back to normal now, phew.

Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of munching on some high tea with my dear friend Tracey and a few girlfriends to celebrate her birthday. We tead at Hotel Nest in Middle Park, a gorgeous venue for an afternoon of sheer cake indulgence. We kicked off with some champers and then worked our way through some finger sandwiches, jam and cream scones, mini cakes in the form of bags we will never afford and then more champers and lots of laughs; whilst seated on ghost chairs. Fabulous!

Would recommend this to any gal who loves spending time with good friends, getting dressed up and sipping on tea from a vintage bone china cup. To be honest the bag cakes look better than they taste but who cares! they look so pretty. The scones and the mini lemon meringues were a stand out.
I wore my new ASOS coat and Konstantina Mittas lace dress underneath with my signature Nine West orange patent shoes.

In true Sleekit fashion I overdressed for a day at Collingwood Children's Farm. I'm of the opinion that wellies are for kids and wouldn't be seen dead in a pair, in fact for me they are up there with Crocs, that's just me. I don't care if Kate Moss is sporting a new pair of Hunter's at Glasto, still wouldnae get me in a pair.

I was recently diagnosed with arthritis of the toe and told by a podiatrist to wear sensible shoes! Eeeekkkkk! This was definitely not music to my ears, I love my heels and flats are just not my thing. Unfortunately my compulsive heel wearing has caught up with me so I'm gonna try and wear some flats but I'm not prepared to give up my heels, life's too short for sensible shoes.

Saturday afternoon/evening on Chapel/Greville St

Before my little boy came along I used to spend my Saturday afternoon's strolling up and down Chapel St, make a few purchases, stop off for lunch at one of the many eateries, polish off a few vinos before parking myself in a taxi and heading home. Ah, those were the days.

So you can just imagine how delighted I was to be offered a whole day and night babysitting, courtesy of my big sis. What better way to spend it than a leisurely day/night around some of my old haunts.

First stop Greville St, its changed so much over the years but I still love this little strip for boutique and something a wee bit special shopping. Stopped off at the old PAM shop (now a video store), thankfully they have not wiped an original Futura 2000 graff nestled at the back of the front door, a little faded but still there. Onwards to Chapel St, a plethora of shops for all occasions, hipsters everywhere.

I loved the Gorman store and feel in love with this seasons collection, a tad pricey for my pocket but yes to colour, duffle coats with pom poms and tailored trousers. Also checked out the Dion Lee collaboration at Cue, again tad pricey but very tempted by the acute tailoring and originality from this great Aussie designer.

For dinner we stumbled down to Commercial Road for a Hutong feast. This was my first visit to the Prahran restaurant after sampling many a tasty morsel at their sister establishment in the city; deep fried salt and pepper prawns, Shao long bau dumplings with several beers thrown in for good measure.

One thing that did strike me was the number of shops that looked close to closure. Are we all shopping online now and putting these boutique shops out of business. Book stores are destined to disappear, Greville St books and Borders have already bit the bullet.

It's freezing and wet in Melbourne, everyone is talking about the weather, "Brrrrr, cold again today huh", "This has to be the coldest day on record", "My fingers are like, frost bitten!", obviously the latter was a slight exaggeration, but for the purpose of this post IT'S BLOODY FREEZIN!

You may have noticed that I have been very conservative with my buying of late due to impending NY trip, only 5 months to go! Weeeeeeeeee. Sometimes you just can't go by a bargain and when I saw this jacket in KMART, yes people KMART for $29, well I just had to buy it. It's the coziest jacket I've ever owned and perfect for the BLOODY FREEZIN WEATHER. I also scored a blue pucciesque scarf in Target for $3 (I have the same scarf in pink and I forever get compliments when I take it out, bargain).

Mother's Day Blue and Green

How was your weekend? Did you have a good Mother's Day? This is what I wore on Mother's Day, any occasion to dress up and celebrate. My day started with a lie in, followed by a cooked breakfast, cards, hugs and a new book; Chanel.

Fashion has always been with me. I love experimenting with different looks and styles, it's what makes me tick. I'm a mum who likes to wear heels and coloured stockings and just because I'm a mum that ain't gonna change. If I look good, I feel good, I'm doing it for me. My wee boy has already started to comment on my style, "Beautiful dress Mummy", "Wear those shoes!", that just makes me smile. Sure, I get a few odd looks when I do the drop off but I also get mum's who say, "You have the best collection of shoes and stockings I have ever seen", so I'll just listen to the latter, that's just me.

Combat, Stripes and hair dye

Finally, after several weeks of hiding under hats, my hair has been re-noired and all the unsightliness is gone. I am naturally dark brown in colour but since I was the tender age of 16 I have been dying my hair. Sometimes I just can't be arsed doing it; it's so bloody messy and no matter how tidy you are, you always end up with a blob on your face, clothing or on the bathroom rug! It's like going into battle, greys come in too quickly to have it dyed in a salon each time so I have to persevere with this laborious ritual in order to avoid a Cruella de Vil. Brand new Genki stripey tee

Last week I posted about the death of my stripey tee, a wardrobe staple that couldn't be replaced. Well, apparently a new tee was alive and well and waiting to be loved over at the online store for Genki. Thanks to the lovely Blitherly Unaware, who alerted me of the site and subsequently resulted in the purchase of a new stripey tee; ordered on Wednesday afternoon and sitting in my post box come Friday morning, now that's service! (unlike another on-line store which I am currently battling to get an order out of, placed at the beginning of April!) more on that later, back to the new stripey tee. Now, you may be asking yourself, you can get a stripey tee anywhere love, ah yes, but I love the cut of the Genki tee, the boat neck and the three quarter arm length and it's made with 100% cotton so it feels snug. Be prepared to see my new tee on the blog on a regular basis, cause you just can't beat a classic.

Genki was a little eccentric boutique store that used to be housed in Cathedral Arcade in Melbourne, you can now enjoy online.

Today was just a glorious day in Melbourne. Do you have an item of clothing that you just can't live without? For me, it's my stripey tee. Bought for $20 in the bargain bin at Genki, it has quite literally been worn to death! Every time I put it in the wash another hole appears and I'm way to lazy to sew it, if only I could find another... The Social Studio - The Cutting Table

The Social Studio is an initiative in Melbourne where the young refugee community can utilise their skills in design and fashion to create garments from recycled fabrics and excess manufacturing materials. The venture creates training and employment in the fashion industry and hospitality, you can read more about it over here.

I was recently informed that The Social Studio will be launching a new venture, sister-cafe, The Cutting Table, at 126 Smith St in Collingwood, just next door to The Social Studio. The cutting table is the heart of The Social Studio. Around the cutting table, people from all cultures and religions come together to learn, to design, to create, to share stories and to be part of a community.
The new menu features African inspired burgers, delicious African appetisers and daily specials, with Halal meats, free range chicken and eggs and fresh produce.

I will be definitely be checking this out, you should too and while your there, check out their new TSS3 collection, I love the black trench with red lining and wooah, those gold leggings!

Easter bonnet

Hope your enjoying your Easter break, eating endless chocolate and parading around in your jammies till dawn. At Easter time I normally buy myself a new outfit but saving for my New York trip in October, I gifted myself a new accessory instead; an Easter bonnet. I love the colour and the wool is so soft n warm (also hides a multitude of sins, my hair currently needs coloured and err washed). I find adding accessories is the cheapest and most effective way to update your wardrobe, accents of colour also add a little sparkle to dark hues worn at this time of year. Easter bunny and creme eggs

So what does Easter mean to you? For me, it's sunny days with family and a steady supply of creme eggs. When I was wee, Easter was all about going to Mass and some bloke called God and creme eggs. I no longer practice Catholicism but I still enjoy Easter. Now that I have a little one of my own I can be the Easter bunny which I'm particularly looking forward to.

This is such a beautiful time in Melbourne, I may have mentioned before Autumn is my favourite season in this stunning city. Whatever you are up to over the Easter holiday, make sure you take time to relax and eat as much chocolate as humanly possible.

My weekend started with a gift from my gorgeous (extremely thoughtful) friend Stephanie. Recycled Frankie mags and a beautiful nail polish all packaged up for me. Recycling your mags with friends is a great idea and simple gesture to help our environment. On Saturday afternoon, I did my usual trip to the market to stock up on fruit n veg (apologies for scowly face) and Sunday afternoon was spent at the beach with my boys, making sand pies, paddling through the sea and reading my newly acquired Frankie mags. Happy Days.

Weekend at The Werribee Mansion

And so, secret anniversary location revealed - wonderful, relaxing, luxurious Werribee Mansion Hotel. Formerly St Joseph’s Seminary and created by the Corpus Christi College in 1926, the hotel used to house and educate thousands of young men who were in training for priesthood from the late 1920s to the 1970s. As you can see from these shots the location is simply stunning and once there you don't have to move a muscle; bar, spa, winery and restaurant all in the one location. Our kinda getaway - Lazy!

My anniversary weekend started with a surprise bouquet of lily and orchid flowers followed by gourmet picnic on the grounds, a trip to the Spa for a facial, and the finale, drinks and dinner in Joseph's restaurant. We shared the most incredible dessert which I would go back for alone. Pictured here, it's called 'The Carnival' : toffee apples, jelly, caramelised pop corn, candy floss and topped off with ice cream - heavenly!

We both had such a lovely time and it was good to take a little time out for just the two of us. If you go, take your cheque book, it's pricey, we may be on beans for the rest of the month but so worth it.

It's my sixth wedding anniversary this weekend! He is whisking me away to a secret location. All I know is, there will be a spa, restaurant and grounds to picnic on....mmmm stay tuned.

And so, the weekend beckons, can't believe we are into April already. Got some dinner with friends tonight and thought I might dress up for the occasion curtesy of my faux fur and recently purchased pink fleuro shoes, other than that I plan to sleep, (I was gifted an all-in-one Dalmatian dog sleep suit; ears on the hood and all, once in, I may never get out - maybe I should do a little post so you can see...) and make the most of that all important extra hour in bed (our clocks go back this weekend). Autumnal looks

With the changing in the seasons brings a wardrobe overhaul. Autumn is my most favoured season of the Melbourne calendar, I love the colours of the falling leaves and the clear blue but crisp mornings. Pictured here, with my recently purchased Nine West pink fleuro shoes and Target scarf, this time as a neckerchief (did I make that up?...I'm sure I heard or read somewhere that indeed was a term/trend). The blue jacket (looks leatherish but is actually PVC), a staple for some time, it's a great fit for me and a perfect accompaniment to this Autumnal look. Melbournians tend to dress in black over the cooler months, I'm a colour girl and prefer not to blend into the crowd.

If you are anywhere in the world then you will know of the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the reports may have subsided but people are still suffering. 20,000 lives lost (including people missing and unaccounted for), the situation still unfolds with the threat of a nuclear fall out amongst the grim search for bodies.

I'm predicating that scarfs and neck chiefs are gonna be big this season, under and over everything. I picked up this Pucci esque scarf at my local Target, on sale for $9. I love the colours and well can't afford the real deal so Target will do for me. Teamed with a vintage pair of snake print trousers from my youth, er circa 1988 (recently spotted at sass and bide's LMFF runway.) It's funny, I have got to that stage in my life when all the things I used to wear as a nipper are coming back, ach well, I'm glad I kept them, even if I need an elastic band to zip them up!

Sleekit out and about - Carlton Espresso

With LMFF all over for another year, it's business as usual. Thought I'd take you on another little luncheon trip, this time Carlton Espresso on Lygon St. Lygon St is the Italian quarter of Melbourne and hosts a multitude of Italian fare, one of my favourite stops to take a pew and watch the world go by. Today, I sampled the small Antipasto plate, couldn't finish it all but was tempted to ask for a doggie bag but refrained from showing my inner bogan (next time I'll take a tub to put it in). The waiters all look handpicked from Milan and speak in native tongue, not an ugly bloke in sight, which is why I go there! I have a couple of words for you (bella and bella) Naw, really the food is delicious and great people watching, my other favourite past time.
