Sleekit takes a trip...

...down memory lane. Five years to be exact; the occasion - my fabulous wedding. This weekend marks the anniversary and the coming together of two kindred spirits, two soul mates, two partners in crime and the biggest party ever!

In true Sleekit style I made it my own. A white off the shelf dress would just not do, so I commissioned a dress maker, we worked on some ideas and came up with this beautiful gown. Taking inspiration from Japanese culture, I had envisaged a dress that would cater for the beach ceremony during the day and transform by night allowing me to kick up my heels on the dance floor; after all there would be a large Scottish contingent, meaning lots of dancing and shenanigans. The shoes I sourced from a shop at the newly opened GPO in Melbourne (it closed a while back), the hair pins online. My husband wore Kenzo and to be honest almost stole the show, but there was plenty of room in the spotlight for two that day.

I want to dedicate this post to my beloved. We are still as strong, when we first met 14 years ago (can you believe it!). For your unconditional love and understanding, for putting me first - always, for giving me the most beautiful son, for getting me, for making me laugh, for putting up with me when I was planning our wedding (I did have a few controlling bridezilla moments, well who doesn't, eh), for being there when times were not so good. Don't ever change, I love all of you; the whole package. Happy Anniversary - in sickness and in health, till death us do part.

This week as mentioned in the previous post I will be channeling the 60s style of the fabulous Mary Quant. My wardrobe is so eclectic that I find when I set myself a challenge such as this my wardrobe opens up and takes on another era. With my accompanying bob I'm feeling all a go go, might even have a little dance in my lounge room to The Kinks or some Small Faces - if only we still had the bright yellow Vespa in the garage....

Feeling all Mary Quant

One week on and I'm still loving my new hair do, for a short crop it's very versatile. I can wear it sleek, messy, to the side and it will even survive three days without washing, bonus!
I have been indulging in much chocolate and relaxing over the Easter break and came across a series of BBC documentaries called 'British Style Genius'. Mary Quant featured in the high street episode and with this new hair do I'm rediscovering her look. She invented the mini and the hot pants and is often credited with the colour and pattern tights that accompanied these garments. Love, love, love this black mac, a timeless classic. I might just channel this look this week, be sure to tune in...

Easter Bunny

When I was wee Easter to me was: 1. New outfit 2. Chocolate and more chocolate 3. Lots of mass and a guy called Jesus. Now I'm all grown up, the only thing that has changed would be the guy called Jesus. Growing up in a very strict Catholic household, I rebelled and gave it all up a long time ago, not that I don't have the Catholic guilt (that will never leave me) and to be fair my Catholic upbringing probably has a lot to do with the kind of person I am today. My mum used to get my brothers, sisters and I kitted out in our Easter outfits and take us off to mass on Easter Sunday, all proud and adoring. We were like the Von Trapps: a small tribe. Mum used to put me and my sister in matching dresses (she was 5 years older), I loved it, she hated it. Our hair would be wrapped and bound in strips of old cloth the night before and in the morning we would wake with perfect ringlets.

I loved getting a new outfit at Easter and have taken this tradition into adulthood. Any excuse really! This year I've purchased a bunny dress, from a distance a very abstract print but up close little bunnies hide among the leopard print. I will also be eating lots of chocolate starting with this gold bunny and continuing for the duration of the holiday. I will be putting my feet up, relaxing and spending time with my family. Arrival of Tightology

A couple of posts back I told you about the wonderful world of Tightology. Today a pair landed in my post box and like everything new I buy, straight on for a road test. These tights are just gorgeous, I love the Organic fabric, the beautiful pattern and they don't cut me off at the waist. If you have been following Sleekit for a while you will gather that I like my tights, Tightology may well become my new supplier.

New week new hairdo

Took myself off to Fur (they have three salons in Melbourne, I went to Greville St, stylist was Bo) this weekend for a much needed hair cut. I like it, it's kinda 60s, Ramones, wee helmet on top of head, twist on the bob I normally go for. Headed out on Saturday night for a road test of the new hair do and the lace dress, got the thumbs up from the ladies. I dye my hair at home, this shade is blue/black which suits the crop for maximum impact. I haven't washed it yet, will be interesting to see how I go with the home blow dry but my stylist assures me that this style is easy for a busy working mum...
