Daily outfit and colour picks around Melbourne

I'm forever looking for colour inspiration, these photos were taken on a recent jaunt around Carlton in Melbourne. Lurking around a corner, furniture, a blue door; such a plethora of pretty and beautiful things. I'm influenced by my surroundings and compelled to document everything I find inspiring, which can lead to one very full photo library!
Having a creative head can get very cluttered but living in Melbourne it's almost impossible to walk down the street and not come across something fabulous. Just the way I like it.

High Tea at Gusto & Elan | Spring Racing

Apologies dear readers, this post is a wee bit late coming to you. Not last weekend, but the weekend before, I was delighted to be invited to a preview of Spring Racing fashion at Brunswick St boutique, Gusto & Elan. My partner in crime and resident Sleekit photographer Beth was my date for the day.
We sampled some delicious sandwiches, cakes and champers before a parade of beauties modelled Gusto & Elan's collection; including one of my favourite Melbourne designers Kathryn Beker
Need to get myself one of those drinks dispensers pronto!

Loved this full skirt and lace, Mina & Katusha singlet and skirt, Gregoria millinery, Cavarra jewellery

Beth should buy this Kathryn Beker dress, reduced to $250!
I won Best Dressed on the day for my Holly Fulton for ASOS frock
and won these leather fold away flats (may come in handy for my tootsies on Oakes Day)

Karen Walker red sheer dress | Spring Racing

Love this Sonia Rykiel belt from ASOS
Love this from Dorothy Dreams Etsy store

As promised, my recent Ebay bargain, brand new, with tags Karen Walker red dress; purchased for $55! I love the sheer of the arms and the high collar, very lady like, don't you think? I've never actually owned a red dress, no idea why, I think it may be my colour. I'm off to Oakes Day (Melbourne Cup Carnival) races with my sister's and my mum and planning on a head to toe red monochromatic look. The bag and shoes I already have, just need to find a headpiece and accessories.

Wee scottie dog dress | Vintage look

belt: Sportsgirl
cashmere cardie: Marks & Spencer

Finally, we have some beautiful Spring weather here in Melbourne, I even braved no tights! My legs are still very Scottish (pale n pasty) even after 10 years living in Australia. Today, I wore my wee Scottie dog dress and a few vintage looking accessories, so you could say this is my vintage look, complete with vintage Kenneth Cole shoes that I picked up in a local op shop.
I have lots of goodies to share with you this week, including a new Karen Walker dress and also a preview of Spring Racing wear courtesy of Melbourne boutique Gusto & Elan. Stay tuned...

Gorman Ebay finds

Gorman jacket bought on Ebay for $100

Gorman 100% silk dress bought on Ebay for $46.90
The colour collar wraps around the back
Dress can also be worn babydoll without the belt
I went to a Thai restaurant for lunch yesterday, perfect match for my new frock
How cute is the elephant cup.Love.

I love the Australian label Gorman, but often find it's a wee bit pricey for a fashionista on a budget, ei moi. Recently, I have been stalking Ebay for everything Gorman and this is my haul so far; leather jacket (which I have not had off, such a bargain) and this newly purchased beautiful 100% silk dress with colour block collar. You may be aware that I am a bit of a shopper but purchasing pre-loved quality items is good for the soul, I'm going to try stay away from the shops and see what other treasures I can find.
The dress is very flowy and perfect for summer but with the Melbourne temp dipping to 10 degrees yesterday, I teamed it with a skinny top, fleuro tights and pulled in the waist with a belt.
I also found myself blending in with the local Thai restaurant decor, love when that happens.
Have a great weekend, see you next week where I will share another Ebay find, this time New Zealand designer Karen Walker, stay tuned...

Little ray of sunshine

 dress: State of Georgia
shoes: Bought in Queensland
yellow J Crewesque balls: Ebay
bag: Topshop
shades: Sportsgirl
cape: Anthropologie

I'm running a little behind on posting as I find myself in the thick of selling our house, cleaning, tidying, running around, cleaning, tidying...you get the picture! Last week, Melbourne's temperature soared dramatically to 29 degrees, I got my summery frock out. I have a bit of a love, hate relationship with this frock and even tried to sell it on ebay once, but time and time again, I get it off the hanger and parade for yet another season, reckon I've had it 8 years. Twas the perfect frock for a very hot, windy day, I'm glad it still lives in my closet.

A beautiful day and return to colour

Today was just beautiful, the sun shone through a perfect blue sky and I finally got over a cold that I've been nursing for the past few days (hence my lack of posts, sorry peeps). On Monday, I joked to my work buddy Beth, that I'd come to work in my pj's (the loose fitting T-shirt, I had actually worn to bed the night before), was so poorly that my sense of personal style had gone out the window for the safety blanket of comfortable, ill fitting, dare I say it, sensible clothes. When she saw me back at work today, she said, "Better then, you've got your heels back on!" Today, I did feel much more like myself and even popped a flower in my hair, to the approval of my son, who said, "It's very pretty mum, that green thing in your hair". Bless cho x
