Sleekit got a new do

On Saturday afternoon, I visited Fur on Greville St, Prahran for a much needed hair cut. I've been going there for years and have always come away happy with my cut, it's hard to find a good hairdresser huh. I've been growing my hair for the best part of a year so was a little reluctant to lose my locks, instead I got an inch off and settled for a long blunt fringe to update my look.
Just in-case you're wondering, my hair is naturally dark brown and every six weeks or so I dye it myself; it's a ritual that I hate, but it saves money and keeps my grey hairs at bay. I've been dying my hair since I was 18, one day it will all fall out but until then...

Time for a fringe

Photobucket
Got myself a fringe on the weekend. Have been really bored with my hair and tempted to chop it all off so with the introduction of a fringe maybe I can sustain growing it for a little longer. Pictured here with some new purchases, ASOS coat and the infamous gloves and ring combo from my previous post, the tattoo tights I have had for yonks (always fun to see folk trying to work out if I have indeed tattooed my whole legs!). Hope your having a great weekend dear readers.

Combat, Stripes and hair dye

Finally, after several weeks of hiding under hats, my hair has been re-noired and all the unsightliness is gone. I am naturally dark brown in colour but since I was the tender age of 16 I have been dying my hair. Sometimes I just can't be arsed doing it; it's so bloody messy and no matter how tidy you are, you always end up with a blob on your face, clothing or on the bathroom rug! It's like going into battle, greys come in too quickly to have it dyed in a salon each time so I have to persevere with this laborious ritual in order to avoid a Cruella de Vil. Do you have a regular beauty chore that rips yer knittin? (annoys that crap out of you)

Friday at Fur

Photobucket

My hair has been unkept of late and without further a do I took myself off to my favourite Melbourne City Salon on Friday night, Fur Hair (Hairdressers to the star fuckers no less!). This has been a haunt of mine for years now. You know what it's like to find a good hairdresser, and then for them to jump ship and take their scissors else where, and you hunt them down liked a crazed person, cause you don't want to go finding yourself another whom you will trust with your locks! Fur Hair is consistent and I love the friendly atmosphere and vibrancy of the salon. The staff don't turn over, I think they genuinely enjoy working there; it's like a wee (the city salon is tiny but cosy) social hub of energy.

The Salon has been decked out like a gym hall with cleverly positioned mirrors and what only can be described as a massive rotating disco ball in the centre of the room. The tunes are forever current and loud and it's always good for people watching; you might even be lucky enough to catch a 'starfucker'!

If you're in the City and looking for an unique hairdressing experience I highly recommend this joint; ask for Frank.

Feeling all Mary Quant

One week on and I'm still loving my new hair do, for a short crop it's very versatile. I can wear it sleek, messy, to the side and it will even survive three days without washing, bonus!
I have been indulging in much chocolate and relaxing over the Easter break and came across a series of BBC documentaries called 'British Style Genius'. Mary Quant featured in the high street episode and with this new hair do I'm rediscovering her look. She invented the mini and the hot pants and is often credited with the colour and pattern tights that accompanied these garments. Love, love, love this black mac, a timeless classic. I might just channel this look this week, be sure to tune in...

New week new hairdo

Took myself off to Fur (they have three salons in Melbourne, I went to Greville St, stylist was Bo) this weekend for a much needed hair cut. I like it, it's kinda 60s, Ramones, wee helmet on top of head, twist on the bob I normally go for. Headed out on Saturday night for a road test of the new hair do and the lace dress, got the thumbs up from the ladies. I dye my hair at home, this shade is blue/black which suits the crop for maximum impact. I haven't washed it yet, will be interesting to see how I go with the home blow dry but my stylist assures me that this style is easy for a busy working mum...
