RAFW and Red and blue and stripes

You may or may not know that this week is Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW). As much as I would love to spend time sitting front row with all the fashion pack, I'm a busy working mum so I'm getting my quick fix over here. Particularly love the latest post on Limedrop 'Calypso'. Trends coming through are colour and fleuro so I should be sorted for the next season and even some stripes.

Brand new Genki stripey tee

Last week I posted about the death of my stripey tee, a wardrobe staple that couldn't be replaced. Well, apparently a new tee was alive and well and waiting to be loved over at the online store for Genki. Thanks to the lovely Blitherly Unaware, who alerted me of the site and subsequently resulted in the purchase of a new stripey tee; ordered on Wednesday afternoon and sitting in my post box come Friday morning, now that's service! (unlike another on-line store which I am currently battling to get an order out of, placed at the beginning of April!) more on that later, back to the new stripey tee. Now, you may be asking yourself, you can get a stripey tee anywhere love, ah yes, but I love the cut of the Genki tee, the boat neck and the three quarter arm length and it's made with 100% cotton so it feels snug. Be prepared to see my new tee on the blog on a regular basis, cause you just can't beat a classic.
Genki was a little eccentric boutique store that used to be housed in Cathedral Arcade in Melbourne, you can now enjoy online.

Can't live without my stripey tee

Photobucket
Do you have an item of clothing that you just can't live without? For me, it's my stripey tee. Bought for $20 in the bargain bin at Genki, it has quite literally been worn to death! Every time I put it in the wash another hole appears and I'm way to lazy to sew it, if only I could find another... A stripey tee will never go out of fashion, every wardrobe should have one but unfortunately for me, my little stripey tee is on its last legs. So here's a wee dedication post to my stripey tee. R.I.P tee : (

Christmas Day outfit

My gorgeous boys on Christmas day, special times x
Photobucket
And so, Christmas is over for another year, was Santa good? (I got so many fabulous gifts but that's another post). I always like to get dressed up on Christmas day, as much as I admire the aussie shorts and tshirt down the beach combo, my roots take me back to childhood when we would get dressed up in our Sunday bests for that one day in December.

This year I decided to make the most of the sales and birthday money and treated myself to a head-to-toe outfit. First pick was this stunning necklace by Drown, I have lusted after this piece for so long and when I came into some spare cash on my birthday, what better way to spend it than with something I LOVE. The Drown range is hand crafted by fellow blogger Alicia from Sea of Ghosts whom I admire immensely, for her style, creativity and progressive outlook toward fashion and graphics - her blog is a daily read for me.

I worked the rest of the outfit around the statement necklace and with my hair in hair limbo (growing it), I worked up a wee bit of a quiff with a french plait down the back. The family approved and I have to say this is the coolest outfit I have donned for a while, hope you like it!....enjoy the rest of the festive season and get into the leftovers, I know I will.

Love Sleekit x

Time for some Spring colour

Inspired by a recent photo shoot in marie claire I'm kick starting Spring with some vibrant colour. The days of driving home from work in the dark are over and I can smell the scent of blossom in the air.  This weekend I am planning a major spring wardrobe clean, I need to make room for all these wonderful garments that I have, currently squashed in like sardines with no room to breathe; I need to be ruthless. An online shop is what I really need, mmmm stay tuned...

It's not yet Spring but I'm already Spring cleaning. You may notice a few new additions to the layout of the blog, I've taken out the old and in with the new. Introducing my 'wish list', I aim to change this on a weekly basis, showcasing online shopping recommendations and links. Another feature will be 'beauty tip of the week', little tips to keep you gorgeous but not out of pocket. If you have any suggestions for what you would like to see in the blog, please comment below I would love your feedback : )
Melbourne Spring Fashion Week kicks off this week and I will be kicking my heels up at a couple of events, look forward to bringing you some feature posts later in the week.
And with a new season brings a new wardrobe. I purchased this outfit from Cotton On at the weekend for the bargain price of $25, add a couple of accessories and a great pair of killer heels and go!

Winter red n green

At the start of the week I set myself a challenge to get some colour into my winter wardrobe. These green shorts I normally wear through summer but with some knee high socks and boots I'll take them through to winter. The jumper with the swan was purchased over 10 years ago when I first came to Australia via Hong Kong. It used to be green but I managed to get an oil stain on it, a little box of die later and it's now kinda black, the stitching also changed colour and to be honest probably prefer it. I have a window of half an hour to take my shots and upload, I really don't have time to fanny about getting the perfect pose, so forgive the slightly tortured look I adorn today :)
They say red and green should never be seen, I say bollocks to that.

After the success of my last online tee purchase from Threadless I went on a little search for some new designs, and came across this tee from Wowch. I loved the combination of Marilyn and the dream catcher, ironic that her dreams led to her demise (or who knows! Whole lot of conspiracy theories there). I've tried to give you my best Marilyn pouts but lets just say I'm a work in progress. The trousers pictured I found at the back of the wardrobe after tackling a shambles of a mess, my wardrobe normally looks like a bombs hit it; total opposite of my beloved who organises his wears military style. I bought them on my last trip to Glasgow from an old favorite Zara, also purchased this fab jacket from Cruise, Queen Vivienne if you may. Come to think of it the shoes were from that trip too, ah those were the days!

New Sleekit Autumn looks

Thought I'd try a couple of new looks with my purchases from the Op Shopper post. For all you folks around the world, the 'Op Shop' (Opportunity shop) is the Aussie equivalent of the charity shop. Here in Melbourne, it's a massive shopping scene.
My first look I wanted the tan shoes to pop; teamed with dark and light hues, this is the perfect out and about outfit for me. (Had no idea Santa was hiding under the table, ho ho)

Top: Maharishi
Shorts: Stella McCartney
Scarf: Shop on Carlisle St
Shoes: Op Shop/Salvos
Tights: Leona Edmiston

My second look is a little 'Star Trek'. A friend once said I looked like an extra from Star Trek, derogatory comment or profound compliment? I think the latter.

Sheer Top: Bought from fashion students in Hong Kong
Skirt: RedDog 3
Boots: Op Shop/Salvos

Go change yerself

The changing of the seasons have officially and finally landed on my doorstep; Autumn is here and with that brings a change in wardrobe. I love the summer and the hot weather but change makes you appreciate those days even more. I like change. Change is good for the soul.
I came across this bangle the other day and was drawn to the typography and statement: "One devoted person can initiate change". I wear this on my sleeve. I would like to think that, maybe this little blog might initiate change; ditch the head to toe black and add a spot of colour, chop your hair off because it will grow again tomorrow, take risks and don't follow the herd..
