New vintage finds

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a friends garage sale and picked up some fabulous vintage scarfs and jewellery. A neighbour was selling all her Grandma's wears and I was kinda like a kid in a sweetie shop, sifting through the treasures of this stylish lady. I love that I can give these gems a new home and re-invent them into my own wardrobe. I didn't really know my Granny but I hope that when I'm old and grey someone will come along and appreciate my treasures and make them their own.

Would you race down the beach in heels to save your favorite Fedora hat?

Please excuse me if my blog is beginning to sound like the weather channel but as predicted on Friday we endured one very cold and windy day. In true Scottish fashion, we ventured to the beach; a wee bit of wind, please! My son on the other hand was less than amused. When I was a kid, we went out in rain, hail, wind, snow, sleet, torrential rain, gale force winds...you get the picture.
So enough of the weather talk and back to the fashion. You may say I'm not a typical mother in the way I dress. I like to wear heels to go on short (I do wear flats for longer outings) walks and dress up every day, that's just me. I love to wear colour, head to toe and you may say I like to stand out. Well, on Friday I did a little more standing out than I bargained for. Whilst on the beach, my hat flew off, in my desperation to save my favorite Fedora hat, I proceeded to chase it down the beach, heels and all, like some kind of crazy lady. I am glad to report (just in case your dying to know) the hat was recovered.
Do you do funny things for your fashion, do tell?...

Lunch at Grigons and Orr Corner Store

Love a bit of nostalgia, whether it be music, tv shows or the lolly bags I used to spend my pocket money on. The other day, I took a trip down memory lane and visited Grigons & Orr Corner Store in North Melbourne for a spot of lunch. It's kitted out like an old school shop with all the good stuff: jelly, spiders and a massive selection of sweets; I sampled their vegetarian baguette, delicious! I'm always on the lookout for kid friendly cafe's and my little Mani would absolutely love this place.
In the fashion stakes, I've also got the orange shoes back out, been a while since I popped them on but they go fabulously with my $5 cashmere scarf purchased from my recent New York trip.
It's a long weekend here in Melbourne, looking forward to kicking back and enjoying the sunshine and my lolly bag, hope you have a good weekend too.

Rugged up

Well hello, I've been a wee bit of a stranger. Life is mental at the moment, work, work, work and not much play, although I did go out for dinner the other night to the Newmarket Hotel in St Kilda and this is what I wore. I'm in mid winter hibernation and feel like I'm favoring a few pieces to get me through this wet and long winter; consisting of: black winter coat, orange shorts and massive cosy scarf, accompanied by leather gloves and of course the infamous orange patent heels (are you sick of seeing them? sorry I do love them). Now, I appreciate that my European/Glesga readers will scoff at the thought of me freezing my buns off, but yes, Melbourne is experiencing one very cold and wet winter. Today the rain was smirry, the kind that soaks you through, drookit to use a Scottish term. Roll on Spring so I can get out off this wardrobe rut, but until then I'm rugging up in the best way I know how whilst colour co-ordinating with the local restaurant, ha!

perfect winter dining, loved it!

Autumnal looks

With the changing in the seasons brings a wardrobe overhaul. Autumn is my most favoured season of the Melbourne calendar, I love the colours of the falling leaves and the clear blue but crisp mornings. Pictured here, with my recently purchased Nine West pink fleuro shoes and Target scarf, this time as a neckerchief (did I make that up?...I'm sure I heard or read somewhere that indeed was a term/trend). The blue jacket (looks leatherish but is actually PVC), a staple for some time, it's a great fit for me and a perfect accompaniment to this Autumnal look. Melbournians tend to dress in black over the cooler months, I'm a colour girl and prefer not to blend into the crowd.
